Frequently Asked Questions

1) How many soft gels of NutriNerve should I consume at one time or with one meal?

You should not consume more than 3 soft gels at any one time or with one meal.

2) Should I inform my physician that I consume NeuroEffex products?

Yes. Your physician should have as much information as possible that is relevant to your health.

3) Who creates NeuroEffex products?

Our products are created, designed and formulated by our medical advisory board.

4) Does the physician or health care professional who recommended NeuroEffex products to me receive a commission?

No, you physician will not receive a commission for recommending NeuroEffex products.

5) Why does NeuroEffex offer a discount if I have a Health Care Provider Reference Number (HRN)? Why can't I get the discount without a HRN?

We reserve the discount for patients who consume our products under the guidance of a health care provider because we believe that our products should be one part of a comprehensive health plan. In our opinion and in the context of diabetes and neuropathy in general, a professional health care provider should be involved.

6) How long does it take for my symptoms to improve?

It varies widely among patients. Most patients will see some sort of improvement within a few weeks, but for other it will require more time. You will want to work with your physician to optimize your dose.

7) How can a physician become a provider of NeuroEffex products?

Via the "Become a provider" web page or calling us at 1-410-702-5899.

8) My physician isn't a NeuroEffex provider. Where can I find a physician that will monitor my use of NeuroEffex and provide me with a HRN for ordering the product?

Submit your contact information here and a NeuroEffex provider will contact you. If you consume NeuroEffex products without the supervision of a physician, please provide them with a Product Information Sheet so he or she is aware of all of the products you consume to promote your health.

9) Do all patients receive the same benefit from a dose of soft gels a day?

No. This is due to many factors including body mass, metabolism and symptoms. Some patients will receive a greater benefit with a larger daily dose and some patients will receive adequate relief with a lower dose.

10) How can I adjust my continuity program to allow me to take more or fewer soft gels a day?

Call our support center at 1-800-449-4447 and tell them the daily dose you will be taking and they will adjust your continuity shipments accordingly. The following table outlines the reorder rate you should specify to the call center if you are taking the corresponding number of soft gels every day.

NutriNerve gels per day Number of weeks between orders
4 9
5 7
6 6
7 5

Please note that it is critical that you maintain the correct and constant dose of product to help maintain the products benefit. Most patients find that they order an extra bottle on hand to fill in for the few days that they run out of product.

11) Do I take all of the soft gels at once each day or can I spread the out over the course of the day?

We recommend that you take your daily allowance of NutriNerve with a meal. It is optimal to spread it out over the day, but not necessary. Please consult your health care provider if you have any questions or concerns.

12) What form of Alpha Lipoic Acid do you use in your formulation?

We have received many questions on the racemic (or racemate) formulation for alpha lipoic acid. Here is our current position:

  1. The racemate or racemic formulation of alpha lipoic acid refers to a combination of the R(+) and S(-) enantiomers of the antioxidant alpha lipoic acid. Many of the beneficial effects/efficacy attributed to alpha lipoic acid and described in past studies have been conducted with the racemic formulation.
  2. The racemic form (thioctic acid-CAS RN 1077-28-7) orally administered is completely absorbed with a bioavailability of about 30% because of a high degree of metabolism of the parent compound by the liver. It is the oxidized form(s) of the compound(s) that is/are active (including the R&S-see #2) and not the reduced form (dihydrolipoic acid) which is ineffective. In humans the compound is broken down by the process of (S-methylation) to 4,6-bismethylthio-hexanoic acid and (by beta-oxidation) to 2,4-bismethylthio-butanoic acid. The more soluble forms of the metabolic products of the compound (conjugated) are excreted in the urine within 24hrs and are responsible for the characteristic strong odor that it produces to the urine. There are no known toxicities attributed to any of the metabolites (at least 5) of alpha lipoic acid. Although, the breakdown products (metabolites) have longer half-lives than the parent compound they also do not accumulate in the body.
  3. It is believed that the two enantiomeric forms R(+) and S(-) of alpha lipoic acid share similar pharmacological properties, although the specifics are not fully known. The R(+) form is the naturally occurring enantiomer of alpha lipoic acid. Some differential physiological effects have been observed with the use of selective enantiomeric forms of alpha lipoic acid. In general terms, the R(+) form exhibits more efficacy in some parameters over the S(-) enantiomer. This apparent stereospecificity of the compound may be attributable to selective uptake by specific cell types and degree of metabolism. The uptake of the R-alpha lipoic acid is greater than the S(-) in some tissues. The R-alpha lipoic acid in cell culture studies has also exhibited greater degree of protection from oxidant damage. Also, it appears that the R(+) enantiomer is more effective than the S(-) with regards to glucose metabolism and insulin mediated glucose uptake.
